FAQ

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Please feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable.  You don’t need tight clothes or a crop top to practice yoga, but your joints do need to be able to move through their range of motion.

DO I NEED A MAT?

For your personal hygiene and for your own comfort it is nice to have your own mat.  Your mat does not need to be expensive.  Thicker, foamy mats can be more challenging to balance on.  If you want to try yoga without buying a mat you can ask us to reserve a YogaKi mat for your first class.  We have limited mats available and you need to message us to reserve one.

I HAVE AN ILLNESS OR INJURY.  CAN I STILL DO YOGA WITH YOGAKI?

Please check with your medical practitioner or health professional if you are working with an illness or injury.  Most poses can be modified to meet your practitioner’s recommendations or to avoid contraindications.  If the pose can’t be changed to meet your needs, your teacher will suggest an alternative pose.  You won’t be asked in class if you have an illness or injury as this is your private information and your responsibility to manage but please feel free to discuss any questions you might have with your teacher.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

f the weather forecast predicts a high % chance of rain 24 hours prior to the scheduled class time the class will be cancelled and this will be noted on our Instagram and Facebook feeds.  Please check Instagram or Facebook before attending class. You can rebook if your class is cancelled by us. You will need to make your next booking within 4 weeks of the cancelled class otherwise you forfeit your booking.  If it starts raining during class we will agree on whether or not to stop the class together.

WHAT IF I FEEL PAIN OR DISCOMFORT?

Please let the teacher know.  If you are uncomfortable letting the teacher know please stop whatever is causing you the pain or discomfort and try another option.  We will try to offer options and modifications available to you.

DO I HAVE TO BE FIT TO TRY YOGA?

You can try yoga even if you don’t feel like you are fit.  We will offer modifications and options for all experience levels.  If you have any concerns please check with your medical practitioner first.

CAN PREGNANT WOMEN DO YOGA?

Yoga can be helpful in pregnancy but there are some things that are not recommended.  Please check with your medical practitioner and ensure that you are working within their suggestions.  For example, twisting, overstretching, and lying on your belly or your back is not appropriate during stages of pregnancy.

WILL THE TEACHER TOUCH ME OR ADJUST ME?

At YogaKi we will not touch you to adjust your alignment to meet an external image of what the pose could look like.  Every person’s body is different and your own personal experience is important to us.  We will encourage you with demonstration and personal suggestions on ways that you can experience each pose.  You are free to ask questions and to bring awareness to your own experience.

I AM A RUNNER, CYCLIST, TENNIS PLAYER, OR OTHER SPORTS PERSON.  CAN I DO YOGA?

Yoga can help improve mobility, balance, and focus and can be a useful tool in any training plan.
